Most states are adopting policies to stop selling single speed pumps to make all new pump purchases variable speed pumps. The cost difference, especially with a Black+Decker pump, between a single speed and variable speed pump is not a huge gap and the variable speed pump will pay you back within a year or two with the cost savings and lower power consumption.
